American Independence Museum Celebrates George Washington's Birthday

American Independence Museum Celebrates George Washington's Birthday

On Saturday February 18, 2012, American Independence Museum is celebrating Image of George WashingtonGeorge Washington's 280th birthday at the Folsom Tavern in Exeter, NH from 10am to 2pm. Families are invited to enjoy 18th Century music, learn to dance the Minuet, crafts, games, and of course, Birthday Cake! Special prizes will be awarded for children dressed as George or Martha Washington.

The Museum's Program Coordinator, Stephanie Hewson, has invited a special guest for the celebration, Mr. President himself, who will make his appearance between 11am and 1pm. Find out for yourself if young George actually cut down a cherry tree with his hatchet or if he could throw a silver dollar across the Potomac River. Everyone will have time to ask him questions, pose for photographs and help him blow out the candles on his cake!

Folsom TavernReservations are requested for this event so the staff may prepare for the party. Admission is $7 per person and $5 for museum members. To reserve your space, visit the Calendar page at independencemuseum.org or call 603-772-2622. Folsom Tavern is located on the American Independence Museum's campus at 164 Water Street in downtown Exeter, New Hampshire. It is the mission of American Independence Museum to connect America's Revolutionary past with the present.

John, this sounds like a great event! And you get to meet the President himself.... now how wonderful is that?! This is a much better way of celebrating his birthday than a "white sale", if you ask me.

Hi Andrea - American Independence Museum has lots of fun events like this throughout the year. I agree, sure beats a "white sale!" Thanks for stopping by. Hope all is well!

John, great Localism post, and for the President to pop in will be quite a treat!

Hi Joan - I'm sure old George will have to field a lot of questions from all the visitors. :-)))   Is it true he never told a lie? Did he really have false teeth made out of wood? Sounds like a great time!

This sounds like a fun event -- Of course, there's no way to know if he's telling the truth when he answers the "Did you ever tell a lie?" question with a "NO".

Hi Kat - Good point! I'm sure old George told a lot of lies if that helped him win the Revolutionary War! LOL   Hope all is well!

Hi John, I hope he at least gets some different questions asked...like what's under the wig or what was his favorite meal was that Martha cooked. Looks like a fun event!

Hi Cindy - If I get over for this event, I'll be sure to relay your questions to old George. Haha! Does make me wonder what his favorite meal was...
